Mmmmmmmmmmmmm

It's been so good to take some time off. I'm relaxing into a most delicious rejuvenation, with the occasional nap in between slowly performed tasks, long walks, and time for reflection.

My eyes have had a rest too, because, instead of reading, I'm listening to one of my favourite presents this year, the unabridged recording of Brideshead Revisited, narrated by Jeremy Irons. If you saw the magnificent series from the 1980s (I haven't been able to bring myself to see the movie version from a couple of years back), you'll remember Irons' voice over. It's that same languid tone he uses here, except he's performing all the characters and he does a really fine job. There are 10 CDs and the box cover features imagery from the recent movie - a bit of cross-over promotion.

Sitting in my study wingchair, with my eyes closed, the occasional sip of hot tea, and some pieces of Soma's irresistible chocolate shortbread, I'm in heaven. And feeling very grateful.

Betsy, I love it too... wonderful to drink out of. They're expensive but I have been assured by my ceramics expert friend that they take a lot of abuse as they are so well made. There's one with snowdrops all around it that I think I might have to get in time. :)

Jeremy Irons? Well, that does sound relaxing! Don't bother to see the movie. It's just so-so. So blah, in fact, that I don't remember much about it.

Fun new header, daaaaling!

Personal down time. I love it. I’m taking a little down time and replacing the faucet in the kitchen and a few other little odd chores. A real fun down time for me is a slow progressive dinner out somewhere. A place where I park it with a couple of folks and order dinner at a snail’s pace, burning through a few good bottles of wine and finishing off with a nice warm Grand Marnier. Hang out so long I almost feel like I need to pay rent. Another one is sitting in front of a golf game and taking a nap or writing a song. In fact, I wrote a classical guitar piece entitled Noah’s Dove while watching the US Open golf tourney. I can’t upload it onto my blog site but I can send a copy of it to you by email if you want. I recorded it on my computer with my classical guitar.

Love the new header and your About Me pic.

I'm with you. I've "read" quite a number of books, listening to the audio version.

Berowne: I'm a real convert to audio books... on long drives or long walks or long afternoons laying about, they are such a treat.

Isn't rest and relaxation the best! Darn January 2010 with its expectations and dark coldness!

Sounds like a perfect way to spend some time. I saw the recent movie, although I much prefer the mini series.
